Hands-on painting captures life in a poetic manner missing from digitally generated imagery. Saving visual choices on a screen takes us away from perceptual truth. Letting go of predictability and conformity uncovers a repertoire of deeply resourced, satisfying imagery.
Contemporary physics proposes ever-shifting multilayered, intersecting realities. Painting mirrors physics by covering and uncovering, adding and subtracting. Hands-on painting risks all and in that risk taking, the painter arrives at a truthful representation of reality.
Direct painting reflects the core of human experience. It exercises our ability to cope with loss, to recognize and recover the familiar in a perpetually shifting world. Preserved in the painted surface is the vulnerable and imperfect path to meaningful resolution.
