I went to Washington D.C. as a delegate representing my VSA arts chapter in 1984. Our celebration began at the Kennedy Center for the Arts and culminated with a performance at the White House. Nancy and I exchanged looks as she took her seat in the front row.
In 2004 we were in Washington D.C. for yet another VSAarts festival when Ronald died. I thought it a unique honor to wait in line several hours, again in the hot sun to view his remains in state. Ironic too that we were staying at the Hyatt where he had been shot.
